The Perinatal Pelvis provides pelvic floor therapy with the goal of not just resolving your symptoms but regaining your life.

Initial Evaluation

  • This establishes care as a client. You are asked to fill out intake forms before the session and then we start by discussing your story, symptoms and struggles. After I have learned more about you we move into the physical evaluation. This includes posture, breathing and body listening assessments, manual techniques for alignment and internal pelvic floor work depending on the individual. Remember you are the director of your care so we don’t proceed with anything until you are agreeable and your body is accepting of it. This session concludes by giving you a clear direction on what to work on at home and recommendations.

How do we treat the whole individual?

We use a biopsychosocial approach that addresses what we call are “the 4 pillars of pelvic floor therapy”:

  1. Biomechanics: includes the strength, coordination, and ROM of your pelvic floor

  2. Nervous System Regulation: includes down training, breath work, vagus nerve stimulation, learning how to listen to your body, etc.

  3. Psychological: includes trauma informed conversations, learning new coping mechanisms, adapting roles and routines, finding confidence in your body

  4. Social/ Emotional: includes addressing the struggles of your life, developing ways to engage in your community, and preparing for the transitions of motherhood.

What makes us different from other pelvic floor therapy clinics?

  • Rebuilding Trust in your Body: The pelvis holds onto memory but has no sense of time, therefore to do this work we have to recognize the trauma, listen to the body and respect what our body needs.

  • Prevention: preventative care is quality care. You don’t have to wait until something is wrong to be supported. Motherhood is a huge transition that needs more support.

  • Choice & Flexibility: This is your session and I want to promote your healing. If you feel better bringing your baby then please bring your baby and know that I have a baby gate, Boppy, etc. to make your baby comfortable. But if you feel better leaving your baby at home that is welcome as well. There is not a right or wrong.

  • Driver of your Care: I strive to make sure that you always feel in control and agreeable in your care. Pelvis floor assesments have a variety of options to accomplish the same goal. Safety and comfort is the most important and together we will figure out the best plan for you.

  • This is a Partnership: I help you facilitate change and learn strategies to gain strength, confidence and independence in your body.

  • Individualize: Your treatments are based on your priority that day. I don’t have protocols for treatment and I am not bound by the regulations of insurance so that you can always be in the center of your care.

  • Confidence: I ensure that my clients leave knowing how to integrate the plan that we develop into their daily lives.

  • Safe Environment: My clients have identified that my clinic is a space in which they feel comfortable. It feels like a home or going into a massage rather than a medical office.

  • Time and Listening: I want to hear your stories. I allow 60-90 minutes for all of my session to not feel rushed and give you my full attention.

Pregnancy is a unique time for women when many physical changes occur in a short period of time creating perfect opportunity for dysfunction.  Whether you are wanting to prepare your body for pregnancy, or had your baby 20 years ago pelvic health occupational therapy is a non-invasive approach that can help make your journey, recovery and ability to feel like yourself possible.
